Navigation & Weather Planning for Passagemakers – Live Online Class (2 sessions Aug 22 & 24)

August 22, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$79.00

Sailors of all levels are invited to join Captain Lisa Batchelor Frailey – an expert in meteorology, passagemaking, and an ASA Master Instructor – as she helps you master the skills needed to plan coastal and ocean passages with confidence. In this online class you will learn how to use navigation, weather, and oceanography to find the best routes, avoid hazardous winds and seas, and use the elements to your advantage.

We’ll review some route planning and marine weather basics, learn to interpret synoptic weather charts and text forecasts, explore the pros and cons of GRIB files, learn to work with weather routers, and get data offshore.

Finally, we’ll put it all together with a bluewater passage scenario, from climatology through route planning, Gulf Stream crossing, enroute weather, and observations.

This online class is designed for sailors of all levels and there are no pre-requisites. Presented in two 90-minute sessions, Aug 22 and 24, 2023. Register at the link below for the live sessions and 1-year access to the recorded sessions.
